Town House, Church Road

Town House, Church Road has been the home of Anthony and Nancy Wills-Smith since March 20th 1976. Anthony was born in Colchester, Essex and Nancy at Castle Camps, Cambridgeshire.

Anthony works in design-and-build for Amec Construction Co. in Ipswich. Nancy is floor manager for the bacon plant at Grampian Foods, Little Wratting.

Playing golf at Stowmarket, fitness and swimming in Newmarket, and gardening are Anthony's leisure pursuits, while Nancy enjoys fitness and swimming in Newmarket and gardening.

"We have a beautiful building of historic interest, in a relatively quiet location, surrounded by an environment we have created." Town House was built by the Haughton Charity in the late 16th or early 17th century as a dwelling for those who needed to be kept by the "town".

Negative aspects of living here are the current planning for infill building of houses and the increase in traffic.

Nancy and Anthony have seen many changes in the Thurlow estate regime since the death of Mr. Ronald Vestey. "Less care of the village generally, more rented property with itinerant occupation." They also notice the planning for new building and the general increase in traffic, including that past their own door.
