135 Pound Green

Dennis and Anne Atherton have retired to 135 Pound Green, having run The Cock public house for more than 25 years. They have both lived in the village all their lives and their families have lived here for several generations.

Dennis's pastimes are gardening and reading whilst Anne does needlework and knitting. They couldn't think of anywhere better to live than Thurlow. No longer being able to wander freely round the fields is the only negative aspect of living here.

Dennis reminisced about his childhood in Gt. Thurlow. Fourteen people lived in one room. His mother had fifteen children and eight of them slept in one bedroom. Three of the girls went into service at fifteen.

Amongst the many changes they have seen have been the pulling down of many cottages, the build-up of much more traffic and almost the end of the bus service.
