Ruth
Irene Davey lives at 1 New Cottages, Lt. Thurlow Green
(built about 1953) with her son Paul. She has had three
spells of living in the Thurlows of three years, five
years and now ten years. Her mother and father came to
the village for work and her mother still lives in Gt.
Thurlow and is aged 97, our oldest inhabitant (née
Ruth Atherton).
Irene,
as she is known, is retired and Paul works as a panel
beater at Cleales in Saffron Walden. Her main interests
are gardening and visiting friends. She likes living in
a nice peaceful village near to her mother to whom she
gives full support. Irene enjoys the lovely countryside
and fresh air. She sees the lack of public transport as
the only negative aspect of living here.
The
most important change she has seen is in the use of village
houses, which used to house estate workers but are now
let on short-term leases, making an ever-changing population.
