John
Long is a retired farmer from Wickhambrook who now
lives at Brora, Lt. Thurlow Green. He says that he
could not possibly farm today, what with modern farming
techniques and the astronomical cost of machinery.
John was both a parish and county councillor from
which he is now retired. He remembers there were very
few sports facilities when he first came to the village
and feels he has helped to set up many we now benefit
from. He enjoys both outdoor and carpet bowls.
John
chose to live in Thurlow because he didn't want to
move too far away from his friends and relatives.
He feels the increase in house building, sporting
facilities and social life have all improved the village,
and he thinks the culmination of the year is Thurlow
Fayre, which raises funds for many local activities.
At
the end of the interview John mentioned that his grandfather
was one of the group who helped to set up Thurlow
Hunt.
