Dora
lives at Porch Cottage,
The Street, Little Thurlow
and is very happy to have
her own house in her native
village. She was born
in a small cottage which
was in a cobbled yard
next to The Grange (now
Mill View Garden). The
house is no longer there.
She started her working
life at The Hall, Gt.
Thurlow with the Ryders,
followed by a time in
Cambridge.
Dora
has one daughter, Barbara,
who is married to Peter
Atherton (one of the family
of fifteen from Gt. Thurlow),
and it is her good fortune
to have her grandson Paul
live close by at The Limes.
Her father was Jerry Wright
and he worked for Brigadier
Frink as his gardener.
After
marrying Harold, the son
of John Rowlinson of the
Cock Inn (at that time),
Dora lived at Low Farm,
Temple End. After that
she spent some time at
Little Thurlow Green (now
White Cottage) in the
late 40's50's.
Dora
and Harold delivered daily
papers for some years
in the Thurlows and Bradleys.
She
has witnessed the arrival
of electricity and piped
water in the village and
looks back to the time
when the village was self-sufficient
with its own shop, post
office and bakery.
Dora
is a founder W.I. member,
a long time P.C.C. member
and spends her leisure
time visiting friends.
